Marble Festival

Make sure to mark your calendars for the 30th annual Marble Festival in Pickens County the weekend of October 2 – 3, 2010. It is going to be a fun filled weekend with plenty of entertainment to keep you going. A parade gets the festival started on Saturday morning at 10 AM on Main Street in downtown Jasper. After the parade, head on over to Lee Newton Park where over 100 booths with handmade arts and crafts and delicious food will be waiting for you. You’ll want to take time to stop by the park pavilion as a wide range of musical acts will be there performing throughout the weekend. A special area is set aside just for kids. In the past the kids have enjoyed a petting zoo, obstacle course, a rock wall, and so much more.
You can view a beautiful array of fine art at the Pickens County Chamber of Commerce Community Room where a fine arts competition will be held as part of the festival. Cash awards will be given for the top 3 selections in each category as well as Best in Show.
A Classic Car Show will be held on Saturday at Lawson Chevrolet courtesy of Corinth Baptist Church. Free shuttle transportation will be available from the festival site to the car show.
End Saturday with another Main Street Mania concert-street dance starting at 7 PM on Main Street in downtown Jasper.
Admission for the festival is $5 for adults, $3 for children 6 and up. Under 6 is free. There is parking available in many areas with free shuttle transportation to take you to the festival grounds. The park is open on Saturday from 10:30 AM to 6 PM and Sunday from 10 AM to 5 PM. Contact the Pickens County Chamber of Commerce for more details and information at (706) 692-5600.

Main Street Mania for September

It’s time again for another Main Street Mania concert on Main Street in downtown Jasper. The show is set for September 11, 2010 from 7 PM to 11 PM. The featured band of the evening is Jasper’s own The Dash Crackers. You may want to get there early to grab a bite to eat at one of the local eateries and secure yourself a good space to enjoy the show. It’s sure to be a rockin’ night so make sure to put it on your calendar. You won’t want to miss it!
