It was created by merging parts of Gilmer and Cherokee counties. The marble quarries in Pickens county are historical and they have produced more than 50 percent of the  monuments in Washington D.C. The county includes the cities of Jasper, Nelson, and Talking Rock GA.

Pickens County covers more than 230 square miles. Population is over 23,000.
County Commssioner’s meeting is every 4th Thursday at 4:00 pm.
