Pickens County Library Book Sale

If you are an avid reader, you won’t want to miss your chance to stock your bookshelves at this great book sale being hosted by the Friends of the Pickens County Library in Jasper, Georgia on September 9 and 10, 2011. This annual sale will be held at the Appalachian Technical College from 9 AM to 6 PM on Friday, September 9 and 9 AM to 2 PM on Saturday, September 10. For more information, call 706-692-5411.

Proceeds from the sale of the books help fund library programs and enable the library to purchase more books for the general collection.

2011 4th of July Celebration

The Jasper Lions Club in Jasper, Georgia is hosting a spectacular Independence Day celebration.

A carnival starts on June 29 and will run through July 4, 2011. The carnival opens at 5 PM on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, 1 PM on Saturday and Sunday, and 11 AM on Monday. Armbands will be available for purchase for $20 per person. They will NOT be available on Saturday or Monday.

A music festival will be going on all weekend as well. The CC Morgan Band, a Southern Rock band, will take the stage on July 1, 2011. Saturday night, July 2, 2011 will bring some bluegrass music with The Lone Mountain Band. You can enjoy some gospel music on Sunday, July 3, 2011 with the group Chattanooga Choo Choo. All bands will be on the main stage at Lee Newton Park each night from 7:30 PM to 10 PM.

July 4, 2011 will start out with a parade at 10 AM on Main Street in Jasper, GA. An opening ceremony will start at 11:30 AM at the Grandstand at Lee Newton Park. The headline band, The Dashcrackers will play from 7 PM to 10 PM with a fireworks display following the concert. This year’s sponsors for the fireworks are Renasant Bank and the Pickens County Sheriff’s Department.

2011 Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show

County Line Baptist Church is holding a Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show at Jasper Jeep in Jasper, Georgia on June 4, 2011 from 9 AM to 3 PM. This will be a judged show and trophies will be awarded for Best of Show, Best Truck or SUV, Best Motorcycle, People’s Choice, Preacher’s Choice, Best Engine, Top 30 Cars and Trucks, and Top 10 Motorcycles. Cash prizes of $250 for People’s Choice and $100 for Best Truck or SUV will be awarded by Jasper Jeep.

There will be door prizes and a 50/50 drawing along with food and entertainment. No alcohol is permitted.

Registration begins at 9 AM on the day of the show and the registration fee is $25. Vehicles arriving after 12:00 Noon will not be judged. The show will go on rain or shine. Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser

FATZ of Jasper, Georgia is holding a Pancake Breakfast fundraiser on June 4, 2011 to raise money for people in Pickens County to help repair damage from the recent severe storms that have ravaged many parts of the county.

Spring Book Sale

Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper, Georgia is having a Spring “Books are Fun” Book Sale on May 2 – 3, 2011 from 7 AM to 4 PM. The books will be available for purchase in the lobby of the hospital. This sale is being hosted by the Piedmont Mountainside Hospital Auxilliary.

Girl Scout Cookie Booths

Cookie booths will be set up on Main Street in Jasper, Georgia on March 12, 2011 for the Girl Scouts to sell the remainder of their cookies. This is a multi troop sale and it will be the last day the booths will be set up. The following is a list of merchants who will have booths set up in front of their businesses.

Veterans Day – Pickens County

Show the military veterans of the United States your support by coming out to watch the Veterans Day Parade and Program in Jasper, Georgia on November 11, 2010. The parade will begin at 10:30 AM on Holley Street between the middle school and the cemetery and end at the Pickens County Courthouse. A program will begin on the courthouse lawn at 11 AM after the parade.

The parade is being sponsored by the Jasper Lions Club and the Program is being sponsored by the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Pickens County Chapter #47.

Halloween Howl Hair-Fashion Show

Smoke on the Mountain

The next musical play being brought to the Pickens County Chamber of Commerce by the Tater Patch Players will be Smoke on the Mountain. This production takes place in 1938 and focuses on the gospel singing Sanders family. After some time off, they have returned to the gospel circuit with the addition of a family member who just got released from prison. Their next performance is for a small church whose pastor has been trying to bring music to his congregation. As you enjoy the evening of gospel music, there are many other things going on which makes it a challenge for Mom Sanders to keep things under control. The show is sure to make you want to sing along as well as laugh and cry.

Dates for the show are October 28 – 31, 2010 and November 4 – 7, 2010. Showtimes are 7:30 PM on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights and 2 PM matinee on Sundays. For more details and information, call 770-547-1096.

October Main Street Mania

Get prepared for another great show on Main Street in downtown Jasper on October 2, 2010 from 7 PM to 11 PM. October’s Main Street Mania concert features the CC Morgan Band. The CC Morgan Band is a great local band who mixes it up with Southern Rock and Country music. Make sure to come early to downtown Jasper, bring your lawn chairs, and claim a good spot to see the show.
