The Dixie Swim Club

The Dixie Swim Club will be performed by the Tater Patch Players in Jasper, Georgia as the first show of the 2012 season. This hilarious play features 5 women who met in college as part of the swim team and they leave their families at home and gather together every year at the same beach house to reminisce and catch up on each other’s lives. Each woman is very different and have very different lifestyles but their friendships and laughter never change.
The show will run February 10 – 12, 17 - 19, and 27, 28, 2012. Showtimes are 7:30 PM except for Sunday matinees at 2 PM. Tickets are $15 for adults, $14 for seniors 60+, and $13 for students. For more information, call 706-253-2800.

Jasper Art Fest

Make plans to attend the Jasper Art Fest on April 16 – 17, 2011 on Main Street in downtown Jasper, Georgia. This is a juried art show and is limited to 80 booths. Not only can you enjoy the art displays but there will be a classic car show going on as well. You can see a parade of Model A’s at 11 AM on Saturday and more classic cars on Sunday. Many of the artists are donating their work to be raffled off on Sunday so don’t miss out on buying some tickets. You just might win a beautiful work of art!
If you enjoy traditional German food and good beer, you’ll want to come by the Woodbridge Inn Restaurant on Saturday, April 16 where local celebrity from the Food Channel, Hans Rueffert, is staging a Biergarten.
Hours for the festival are Saturday, 10 AM to 6 PM and Sunday, 10 AM to 4 PM.

Drawing for Fun

If you have some artistic ability but feel like you would like some instructions on how to best hone that ability, take some beginner drawing classes at Burnt Mountain Trading Company. Instructor Alan Young will lead these classes every Friday in March, 2011 from 1 PM to 3 PM and every Saturday in March, 2011 from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM. You can sign up for as many sessions as you would like. Students are required to bring their own drawing paper, pencils and erasers. Each 2 hour session is $25. Registration is on a first come-first serve basis and class size is limited to 5 students ages 11 and up.

Applique-Take and Make

Sharptop Arts Association has a monthly gathering every 3rd Tuesday from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM where a skilled artisan shares an art technique and then helps with a hands-on session for everyone to work on the technique discussed. These classes are free but you will need to bring all supplies for the hands-on portion of the class. This is a great opportunity to learn art techniques from a pro and put it to use at the same time!

Pen and Ink Art Class

Sharptop Arts Association in Jasper, Georgia will be holding a Pen and Ink Wildlife and Landscaping Drawing class on January 20 and 27, 2011 from 6 PM to 8 PM. Alan Young is the instructor and he will teach beginning and intermediate pen and ink drawing fundamentals focusing on composition, perspective, light principles, and horizons. The class will learn rapidograph and ballpoint methods. Students should bring an 18×24 80 lb. sketch or drawing pad.
