October Main Street Mania

Get prepared for another great show on Main Street in downtown Jasper on October 2, 2010 from 7 PM to 11 PM. October’s Main Street Mania concert features the CC Morgan Band. The CC Morgan Band is a great local band who mixes it up with Southern Rock and Country music. Make sure to come early to downtown Jasper, bring your lawn chairs, and claim a good spot to see the show.

Marble Festival

ClownMake sure to mark your calendars for the 30th annual Marble Festival in Pickens County the weekend of October 2 – 3, 2010. It is going to be a fun filled weekend with plenty of entertainment to keep you going.  A parade gets the festival started on Saturday morning at 10 AM on Main Street in downtown Jasper. After the parade, head on over to Lee Newton Park where over 100 booths with handmade arts and crafts and delicious food will be waiting for you. You’ll want to take time to stop by the park pavilion as a wide range of musical acts will be there performing throughout the weekend. A special area is set aside just for kids. In the past the kids have enjoyed a petting zoo, obstacle course, a rock wall, and so much more.

You can view a beautiful array of fine art at the Pickens County Chamber of Commerce Community Room where a fine arts competition will be held as part of the festival. Cash awards will be given for the top 3 selections in each category as well as Best in Show.

A Classic Car Show will be held on Saturday at Lawson Chevrolet courtesy of Corinth Baptist Church. Free shuttle transportation will be available from the festival site to the car show.

End Saturday with another Main Street Mania concert-street dance starting at 7 PM on Main Street in downtown Jasper.

 Admission for the festival is $5 for adults, $3 for children 6 and up. Under 6 is free. There is parking available in many areas with free shuttle transportation to take you to the festival grounds. The park is open on Saturday from 10:30 AM to 6 PM and Sunday from 10 AM to 5 PM. Contact the Pickens County Chamber of Commerce for more details and information at (706) 692-5600.

It’s time again for another Main Street Mania concert on Main Street in downtown Jasper. The show is set for September 11, 2010 from 7 PM to 11 PM. The featured band of the evening is Jasper’s own The Dash Crackers. You may want to get there early to grab a bite to eat at one of the local eateries and secure yourself a good space to enjoy the show. It’s sure to be a rockin’ night so make sure to put it on your calendar. You won’t want to miss it!

Farm Days of Yesteryear

Antique Farm TractorThe Georgia Antique Engine Club will be holding their annual Farm Days of Yesteryear Antique Engine Show on September 11 – 12, 2010 at Lee Newton Memorial Park. How interesting to see many tractors and pieces of farm equipment from the past at this event. The Georgia Antique Engine Club’s members are dedicated to preserving tractors and related farm machinery from the past  so we can appreciate them in the future. Main Street Mania

Rock MusicBring your families and come on down to Main Street Mania in downtown Jasper on August 14, 2010 from 7 PM to 11 PM to listen to some great Classic and Southern Rock music performed by the band Stagrr. Make sure to stop in at one of the local restaurants and get something to eat or drink while you are there. The kids will have a blast jumping in the Jumping Castle that is part of the event.

The Main Street Mania music series was started in 2008 by the City of Jasper to help promote the city and this year have partnered with knowpickens.com to help with promotion of this great event. There will be 2 more shows this year featuring different bands, one in September and one in October. Don’t miss them!

Car Show at Vernie Jones Ford

Classic CarCome on out to Vernie Jones Ford on August 14, 2010 from 8 AM to 3 PM for a Car Show being sponsored by County Line Baptist Church. There will be live entertainment and food available. Don’t miss your chance at some door prizes and drawings being held during the day.

Trophies will be given in several categories including: Best in Show, Participants’ Choice, Preacher’s Choice and Top 25 Cars and Trucks.

Registration will begin at 8 AM and participants entering after 12 Noon will not be judged. Trophies will be awarded at the end of the day at 3 PM. The registration fee is $25 and is due on the day of the show.

Guys and Dolls

Don’t miss Jasper community theater’s Tater Patch Players in their performance of the musical Guys and Dolls on July 29 through August 1, 2010 and August 5 through August 8, 2010. Show times are 7:30 PM except Sunday. Sunday performances are matinees and will be at 2 PM.

Guys and Dolls is a popular musical with a mix of comedy and romance set in the streets of New York during the 1940s. This show depicts an interesting combination of characters from gamblers and showgirls to mission workers with lots of song and dance, making for a lot of fun and entertainment.

The show is being held in the Pickens County Chamber of Commerce Community Room on Stegall Street in Lee Newton Park. Advance ticket prices are $12 for adults, $10 for students. Ticket prices at the door are $3 more. You can get your advance tickets from the Community Bank of Pickens County, Jasper Drug or purchase online at www.taterpatchplayers.org.
