2011 4th of July CelebrationThe Jasper Lions Club in Jasper, Georgia is hosting a spectacular Independence Day celebration.

A carnival starts on June 29 and will run through July 4, 2011. The carnival opens at 5 PM on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, 1 PM on Saturday and Sunday, and 11 AM on Monday. Armbands will be available for purchase for $20 per person. They will NOT be available on Saturday or Monday.

A music festival will be going on all weekend as well. The CC Morgan Band, a Southern Rock band, will take the stage  on July 1, 2011. Saturday night, July 2, 2011 will bring some bluegrass music with The Lone Mountain Band. You can enjoy some gospel music on Sunday, July 3, 2011 with the group Chattanooga Choo Choo. All bands will be on the main stage at Lee Newton Park each night from 7:30 PM to 10 PM.

July 4, 2011 will start out with a parade at 10 AM on Main Street in Jasper, GA. An opening ceremony will start at 11:30 AM at the Grandstand at Lee Newton Park. The headline band, The Dashcrackers will play from 7 PM to 10 PM with a fireworks display following the concert. This year’s sponsors for the fireworks are Renasant Bank and the Pickens County Sheriff’s Department.

2011 Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show

Classic CarCounty Line Baptist Church is holding a Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show at Jasper Jeep in Jasper, Georgia on June 4, 2011 from 9 AM to 3 PM. This will be a judged show and trophies will be awarded for Best of Show, Best Truck or SUV, Best Motorcycle, People’s Choice, Preacher’s Choice, Best Engine, Top 30 Cars and Trucks, and Top 10 Motorcycles. Cash prizes of $250 for People’s Choice and $100 for Best Truck or SUV will be awarded by Jasper Jeep.

There will be door prizes and a 50/50 drawing along with food and entertainment. No alcohol is permitted.

Registration begins at 9 AM on the day of the show and the registration fee is $25. Vehicles arriving after 12:00 Noon will not be judged. The show will go on rain or shine. Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser

Pancake BreakfastFATZ of Jasper, Georgia is holding a Pancake Breakfast fundraiser on June 4, 2011 to raise money for people in Pickens County to help repair damage from the recent severe storms that have ravaged many parts of the county.

Spring Book Sale

BooksPiedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper, Georgia is having a Spring “Books are Fun” Book Sale on May 2 – 3, 2011 from 7 AM to 4 PM. The books will be available for purchase in the lobby of the hospital. This sale is being hosted by the Piedmont Mountainside Hospital Auxilliary.

Jasper Art Fest

Artist BrushesMake plans to attend the Jasper Art Fest on April 16 – 17, 2011 on Main Street in downtown Jasper, Georgia. This is a juried art show and is limited to 80 booths. Not only can you enjoy the art displays but there will be a classic car show going on as well. You can see a parade of Model A’s at 11 AM on Saturday and more classic cars on Sunday. Many of the artists are donating their work to be raffled off on Sunday so don’t miss out on buying some tickets. You just might win a beautiful work of art!

If you enjoy traditional German food and good beer, you’ll want to come by the Woodbridge Inn Restaurant on Saturday, April 16 where local celebrity from the Food Channel, Hans Rueffert, is staging a Biergarten.

Hours for the festival are Saturday, 10 AM to 6 PM and Sunday, 10 AM to 4 PM.

Girl Scout Cookie Booths

Cookie booths will be set up on Main Street in Jasper, Georgia on March 12, 2011 for the Girl Scouts to sell the remainder of their cookies. This is a multi troop sale and it will be the last day the booths will be set up. The following is a list of merchants who will have booths set up in front of their businesses.

Drawing for Fun

Drawing sketchIf you have some artistic ability but feel like you would like some instructions on how to best hone that ability, take some beginner drawing classes at Burnt Mountain Trading Company. Instructor Alan Young will lead these classes every Friday in March, 2011 from 1 PM to 3 PM and every Saturday in March, 2011 from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM. You can sign up for as many sessions as you would like. Students are required to bring their own drawing paper, pencils and erasers. Each 2 hour session is $25. Registration is on a first come-first serve basis and class size is limited to 5 students ages 11 and up.
