2011 Georgia Marble Festival

The 31st annual Georgia Marble Festival  is coming up on October 1 and 2, 2011 in Lee Newton Park in Jasper, Georgia. This exciting weekend will be jam packed with plenty of things to do. To get things started, a parade will go through downtown Jasper starting at 10 AM on Saturday, October 1. Many local artisans set up booths to sell their homemade arts and crafts and tasty treats. There will be a kid’s area for the younger folks to be entertained. You can pick from 3 different marble quarry tour options. It is fascinating to see where the Georgia marble comes from and how the industry works. Various live bands will be performing for your entertainment throughout the weekend in the pavilion in the park starting after the parade.

The festival is open from 10:30 AM to 6 PM on Saturday, 10 AM to 5 PM on Sunday. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students 6 and up, free for children 5 and under. For more information on the festival, call the Pickens County Chamber of Commerce at 706-692-5600.

Also part of the celebration is the 29th annual Georgia Marble Festival Fine Arts Competition taking place in the Pickens County Chamber of Commerce Community Room across from Lee Newton Park. This is a juried competition bringing artists from all around the region. Stop by to see some of the wonderful works of art being showcased.

For those who are more active, there is a 5K Run Road Race and 1 mile Fun Run happening early Saturday morning. This is sponsored by Jasper United Methodist Women. Proceeds will go to help fund the ministries of the Dorcas Circle. For more information on the race and to sign up, call 706-253-2100.
